Pre-Nursing at Boise State

Pre-Nursing Major

Congratulations on your decision to pursue a career in nursing. Before you can apply for admission to the nursing program, you must complete the curriculum for pre-nursing majors and meet the grade and GPA requirements.

Application Requirements

To apply to the nursing program, students must complete the courses listed below and earn the required grades. However, because space is limited to 60 seats each application cycle, completion of these requirements does not guarantee admission.

Section 1: Prerequisite Courses & GPA Requirements

Prior to applying to the BS-Nursing program, your cumulative GPA in the following courses must be a 3.00 or above, and you must earn a grade of C (2.00) or better in each course.

Please Note: Grades in the following courses is very important since the cumulative GPA from these courses is used to rank applicants for admission into the BS-Nursing program.

      • BIOL 227 Human Anatomy & Physiology and Lab
      • BIOL 228 Human Anatomy & Physiology and Lab
      • CHEM 101/101L Intro to Inorganic Chemistry and Lab
        or CHEM 111/111L General Chemistry and Lab
      • MATH 254 Applied Statistics

Section 2: Prerequisite Courses & GPA Requirements

Prior to applying to the BS-Nursing program, you must complete the following courses with a grade of C (2.00) or better.
      • ENGL 101 Introduction to College Writing
      • ENGL 102 Intro to College Writing and Research
      • PSYC 101 General Psychology

Section 3: Prerequisite Courses & GPA Requirements

The following courses may be in progress during the semester you apply to the BS-Nursing program but must be completed by the end of the semester in which you are applying with a grade of C (2.00) or better.
      • HLTHST 207 Nutrition
      • BIOL 205 Introductory Microbiology
      • HLTHST 300 Pathophysiology
      • SOC 101 (Introduction to Sociology) or 102 (Social Problems) or 230 (Introduction to Ethnic Studies)

Foundational General Education Courses

To be core certified to graduate from Boise State, pre-nursing students should plan to take the two required, general education foundational courses during their first three semesters at Boise State.
      • UF 100 Intellectual Foundations
      • UF 200 Civic and Ethical Foundations

Upon verifying with your Pre-Nursing Academic Advisor that you meet the prerequisite course and GPA requirements (typically during your third semester of undergraduate studies), we invite you to complete the BS-Nursing application process.
