What is a health education and promotion?
This Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) video provides a good overview of what we do.
Health education and promotion enables the development of life-skills, self-concept, and social skills through a broad range of political, legislative, fiscal, environmental, and administrative means. We work to make the easy choice the healthy choice by creating supportive environments that will have the greatest impact in producing lasting positive health behavior change.
Health education specialists work for voluntary health agencies, local and state health departments, public/community agencies, health care agencies, work-sites, university health centers, and public schools (if a licensed teacher). Our graduates work in a wide variety of employment settings.
Our graduates are eligible to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam and we have a great pass rate. Check out these reasons why employers hire graduates with the CHES certification.
Job outlook for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) is positive.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook projects 16% increase in employment opportunities until 2026.
Money Magazine named health education as one of the fastest growing, high-paying careers for the future, with a faster than average job growth through 2022 at 21%.
