CPAS Graduate Students Host Youth Sport Parent Education Seminar
Anna Schimpelpenig and Carissa Ware, Center for Physical Education and Sport graduate students, hosted a parent education seminar entitled The Biggest Fan: A Guide for Youth Sport Parents, April 16th and May 2nd, 2013 on the Boise State campus. The goal of these seminars was to bring a more enjoyable sporting experience to the Treasure Valley youth sport community. Schimpelpenig and Ware addressed a number of parent concerns including whether organized youth sport is beneficial for children ages 12 and under, the importance of winning in youth sport, and whether playing sports builds character. Parents who attended the seminar were left with tips on how to provide a more positive sport experience for young athletes.
