Pre-Dental Club Meeting

We will have the director of the Idaho Dental Education Program (IDEP), Dr. Jeff Ybargen,  come to talk with our group.  IDEP is the state supported route for dental education. It is a cooperative effort between the State of Idaho, Idaho State University, and Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Students are accepted to Creighton University Medical Center School of Dentistry and the IDEP program. There is a decentralized first year, where classes are taken at Idaho State University in Pocatello Idaho and the remaining three years are taken at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska. Students must be Idaho residents in order to be considered for the program. Upon completion of the four-year curriculum they are awarded Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees from Creighton University.  The cost to attend this program is much lower than other dental programs.

Currently, there are 8 IDEP seats – so the program is quite competitive.  Come and hear what they are looking for in candidates!  If you are an Idaho resident, this program will be one of several to which you will apply.  This will be great information and a chance for you to ask questions!  Dr. Ybargen comes to campus only once a year – so don’t miss this program!

We will be preparing the bouquets for delivery, writing cards to attach to each bouquet,  and organizing the flowers for delivery the next day.

Even if you have only an hour to help - we can use you!!  If you plan to come (please consider it!!), just send Glenda a quick e-mail at ghill@boisestate.edu to let her know which day and approximately when you might be coming so we can make sure we have our workforce needs covered.  Volunteering is fun - come and join us for a good cause.

Pre-Med Panel
Come and hear some of the students who applied to medical school this year discuss the application process, interviews, how they prepared for the MCAT, etc. Elections will also be held to designate club officers for the 08-09 year.  There will be pizza! Please RSVP to
ghill@boisestate.edu so we make sure to have enough.

We are looking for individuals interested in serving in leadership roles.  The success of any student organization hinges on its leadership, so these elections are very important.  To be eligible to run for an office, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in at least three credits (Fall 08 and Spring 09).  If you are interested in running for an office, you will need to attend this meeting.  Self-nominations will be taken from the floor with those interested in holding specific offices asked to briefly tell the group something about yourself and your qualifications to hold the office in question.  Secret ballot votes will then be taken.

Please think about making a significant contribution to the Pre-Med Club in a leadership capacity.  The officers must work as a team with the rest of the Pre-Med Club members to create a strong organization.  If you are interested in running for an officer position, please be in attendance.  If you don't plan to run for office, please come and vote!  Everyone's participation is needed!
