You are entering a program designed to meet national level accreditation criteria; the program’s graduates are expected to have achieved competencies set forth by national organizations.

What is Nursing of Populations?
The Graduate Program in Nursing at Boise State combines clinical expertise, passion, and knowledge to partner with populations in promoting health, preventing disease, and addressing health inequities.
Outcomes include:

  • Advocacy to decrease health disparities
  • Policy making to address health disparities
  • Improving health outcomes of populations in need
  • Implementing cost effective strategies to address health disparities
  • Leadership strategies to impact safety, cost, and clinical outcomes
  • Executing educational approaches to improve clinical decision making and evidence based practice
  • Developing practice guidelines

Nursing populations develop from ‘your passion’ and areas of interest such as:

  • Trauma and critical care patients
  • Post heart attack, stroke, and heart failure patients
  • People living with diabetes
  • Rural health
  • Older adults and their care givers
  • Immigrant/migrant populations
  • People with diverse ethnicities
  • Neonates, pre term, and low weight newborns
  • Child bearing women and families
  • Children, pre teens, and adolescents
  • Alcohol and substance abusers
  • Patients with behavioral health issues
  • Hospital and clinical staff
  • College students and faculty

Program Information

  • Online delivery allowing flexibility
  • Part time program extends over 6 semesters
  • Program admission based on undergraduate GPA, personal essay, and interview
  • Cohort program beginning each fall semester
  • Designed for the working professional

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Master of Nursing (MN) options

Faculty and Scholarship Activities

  • Faculty research interests ranging from end of life issues, leadership, health promotion in culturally diverse populations, to faculty with extensive experience in lactation research and limb loss and pain management.
  • International nursing partnerships with the Netherlands, Ecuador, China, and Honduras
