Admission

Students who are considering completing their Bachelor’s in Nursing must also apply to enroll in Boise State University. Students who would like to enroll and take courses at Boise State University before being admitted in the nursing Program may select nursing support courses and prerequisite courses listed on the curriculum overview. Please note that nursing courses on the program of study are sequential and need to be taken each semester in the order they are listed.

Admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science Nursing Program:

The courses listed below must be completed with a grade of C or better (not a C-) before submitting an application.  The admission GPA calculated from the grades of these courses must be 3.0 or higher to apply to the Program:*

  • MATH 254 (Math Statistics only)
  • CHEM 101 with lab or CHEM 111 with lab
  • BIOL 227, BIOL 228

*Students applying in Fall 2014 for Spring 2015 start, the admission GPA will increase to 3.25, and HLTHST 207 will be included in addition to the courses identified above to calculate the admission GPA and Additional points will be given to candidates who have not repeated these prerequisite classes to achieve a higher grade.  (See Application).

These courses need to be completed with a grade of C or better before application, but are not used to calculate the admission GPA.

  • ENGL 101, ENGL 102
  • PSYC 101
  • UF 100 and 200*
  • SOC 101 or 102 or 230 (DLS)

These courses must be completed with a “C”or better (for Spring 2014 applicants to start Fall 2015, a “B” or better will be required) before or during the semester of application into the Nursing Program. These courses are not used to calculate the admission GPA.

  • BIOL 205
  • HLTHST 300
  • HLTHST 207 (Beginning Fall 2014 for Spring 2015 start, HLTHST 207 will be used in to calculate the admission GPA)

HESI Admission testing will begin in the Spring 2014 application period for Fall, 2014 start.  A student may take the HESI admission test 2 times and the highest composite score will be used.  For Fall applicants, testing must be completed by September 1, and February 1 for Spring applicants.

Students must apply for admission and be accepted to Boise State before applying to the School of Nursing.

*Students transferring from another institution and those who already have at least an academic Associate (Associate of Science or an Associate of Arts) Degree do not need to take these courses prior to admission. However, transfer students do need to be “core certified” prior to entering the Nursing Program and must take UF 300 before graduation.  For more details see: http://registrar.boisestate.edu/corecertification.shtml.
