Friends of Nursing logo

Friends of Nursing is a volunteer group of community members established in 1988 for the purpose of supporting excellence in nursing education by providing resources for and enhancing community relationships with Boise State University’s School of Nursing. The Friends of Nursing board membership includes registered nurses, physicians, key hospital administrators, proactive leaders in professional organizations and others. Through a bequest from Friends of Nursing charter member Jody DeMeyer, an endowed chair was created in the School of Nursing – the first in nursing in the State of Idaho and only the second endowed chair at Boise State University.

A fund raising event is held in November of each year to support nursing student scholarships. Donations have also been solicited to support faculty development, technology, library resources and construction of the new nursing building. Through the hard work of Friends of Nursing board members in conjunction with the College of Health Sciences Development Director, close to $11 million has been raised for the people, places, and programs of the School of Nursing.

Friends of Nursing created and maintains a video and brochure explaining the role of nurses in health care today and communicating the importance of recruiting and retaining high quality faculty and students. Visit the video and you can read the Questions and Answers.

Having clinical sites available for students to gain hands-on experience while they are still in school is an important aspect of effective education. Friends of Nursing advocate with local health providers to participate as clinical sites.
