Clinical Assistant Professor, School of Nursing
Jean Anderson came to Boise State in 2011 with more than 30 years of experience as a RN, nurse practitioner (NP), and nursing leader across a broad spectrum of health care settings and organizations. She graduated with a BS Nursing from California State University, Sacramento and earned a MS Nursing as an adult/occupational health NP from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Arizona State University in 2010, focusing on evidence-based practice and education. Her scholarship interests include: education for adults with sleep apnea to improve positive airway pressure therapy adherence; process of transition from expert clinician to novice graduate/doctoral student; and use of differential diagnosis to enhance clinical reasoning skills of nursing students.
Jean began her professional career as a specialist in emergency and adult critical care nursing and was certified as a critical care nurse (CCRN). She has been certified as an adult nurse practitioner (NP) since 1989 and has worked in primary care settings in ID, AK, CA, FL, NM, ME, and AZ caring for adult patient populations with a broad variety of complex internal medicine health issues. She currently works part time as an NP in the Boise State University Health Services Clinic.
Dr. Anderson has received several awards for teaching and educational service. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in leadership, physical assessment, advanced primary care practice/differential diagnosis, evidence-based practice, and medical-surgical nursing since 2005.
Jean is a veteran who served 10 years in the USAF Reserves and Alaska Air National Guard as a Nurse Corps officer, flight nurse instructor, and NP. She served in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War and received multiple awards for outstanding military service.
Dr. Anderson has extensive leadership experience in professional nursing organizations. She currently serves as an officer in Mu Gamma Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at Boise State. She helped found the Northern California Nursing Research Network and Zeta Eta Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and has received several awards for outstanding service for national nursing organizations.
