What are the MHS Program graduation requirements?
Form a
Supervisory Committee
Once admitted
with Regular status to the Master of Health Science Program a
supervisory committee should be formed.
The supervisory
committee will work with the student to establish a program of study,
direct the thesis or project or develop a case study, and administer
the comprehensive examinations.

Complete Required Core, Culminating Activities and Emphasis Area Course Work
The curriculum
(36 - 39 credits) is comprised of core courses (15 credits),
culminating activity requirements (9 - 12 credits) and, emphasis area
courses (12 – 15 credits).

Apply for Candidacy
Master’s level
students should apply for candidacy as soon as possible after
completing 18 credits of graduate work. To document your candidacy
for a graduate degree you must complete an Application to Candidacy
form (PDF) and submit it to your Supervisory
Committee for approval.

Complete MHS Program Culminating Activities
Culminating
activities serve as the capstone to the graduate student’s program of
study. Hence, they should demonstrate the student’s ability to
synthesize academic and other preparatory work and signal the
student’s readiness to work independently.
The program
requires the completion of a capstone assessment course (MHLTHSCI
600) and either a thesis or project or additional course work. :
Assessment
Course (capstone)
This course serves as the final
comprehensive assessment of student knowledge and abilities related
to program competencies and must be taken during the final semester
of the student's graduate program.
A
thesis or project option
Once a student has
completed 18 credit hours of required graduate course work, he/she are
eligible to begin working on a
thesis or project.
Additional
Course (non-thesis/non-project) work option
A student can elect to take additional elective courses in lieu
of completing a thesis or project.
Apply for
Graduation
At the beginning
of the semester a student is planning to graduate he/she must complete
and submit an Application for Graduation to the Graduate College.
