from the Dean
Welcome to the College of Health Sciences at Boise
State University. Regardless of your area of interest, I assure you
that each of our programs feature top-notch faculty and staff who are
here to make your learning experience relevant and meaningful. In the
clinical disciplines, every member of the faculty holds an appropriate
license or certificate in her/his field and brings with her/him many
years of experience in the practice setting.
Our College offers high quality undergraduate degree programs in
nursing, radiologic science (including specialties in medical
sonography, magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography, and
administration), respiratory care, environmental and occupational
safety and health, health informatics and information management,
health science studies, and pre-professional emphases. Graduate
offerings include a Master of Health Science in health promotion,
health policy, environmental health, health services leadership, and
health research as well as graduate certificates in health services
leadership, addiction studies, and gerontological studies. A master’s
degree in population health nursing is being proposed to the State
Board of Education to begin in the spring of 2007.
Students are our priority. As a student, you will
become part of a dynamic learning community that offers academic
challenge in preparation for a career of service. All students
participate in a curriculum that combines classroom sessions
(traditional, hybrid, and web-based), skill development laboratory
activities, with internships and practicum experiences designed to
stimulate critical thinking and better enable adaptation to the
ever-changing health care work environment.
One major advantage enjoyed by students and
faculty at Boise State is the close knit relationship with health care
partners in the surrounding community. The success of our programs and
the opportunities for our students are inextricably linked to the
connections we enjoy with hospitals, state and regional agencies, and a
host of nonprofits. To that end, many of our graduates are current
leaders in the acute care and community/public health settings.
So, please take some time to visit the web pages
on this site in order to discover for yourself the advantages of
attending Boise State. Regardless of your major, rest assured that each
of us is here to see that you are challenged not bored; stretched but
not broken; and shaped so that you can discover and better appreciate
the wonder of your place in this world. Thanks for visiting!
